Dominican Day in Nashville, TN

January 5, 2015

On the afternoon of January 1, 2015, just before the opening of SEEK 2015—a national conference presented by FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students)—in Nashville, Tennessee, the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia hosted a “Dominican Day” at their Motherhouse. Dominican friars from throughout the United States and students from various schools with Dominican chaplaincies joined the sisters for the Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, which was followed by lunch, a tour of the Motherhouse, testimonies from Dominican friars and sisters, Adoration and Vespers.  Also present for the Mass were Archbishop Samuel Aquila, Archbishop Paul Coakley, Bishop David Choby, Bishop James Conley, Bishop John Folda, Bishop James Wall, and other clergy from around the country who were in town for the SEEK conference. In his homily at Mass, Father James Brent, O.P., of the Province of St. Joseph, preached that it is Jesus who shows us the way to evangelize in his very Self: “The first thing He does in his mission to save us was to entrust Himself to Mary… He made Himself dependent upon her in everything.” God wants us to entrust everything to her just as Jesus did. “She was born to pray us into living images of Jesus … so that we can evangelize the world with Jesus.”
